I am back with a new DIY project and this time it is a baking project. Easter was a couple of Sundays ago and I made some really cute treats to share with my family for the holiday. Anyways, I went on Pinterest and found a treat and I was very happy with how they turned out. So today I’m going to share with you how to make Oreo bunnies and chicks!
So the ingredients I used were:
1 package of vanilla almond bark
1 package of big marshmallows
food coloring (yellow)
M&Ms (pastel colors)
1 package of Oreos
So to make these delicious treats first you’ll want to wash your hands (of course) and start melting your almond bark. I used vanilla, but you could also use white chocolate. I melted my almond bark by putting it in to the microwave for 1 minute and 30 seconds (you’ll want to follow the directions for your brand). I put in 3 blocks at a time because if you heat all of it up at the same time, the bark you are not using at the moment will harden. You might think if it hardens, I’ll just reheat it! Well the problem with that is if you heat it to many times it will start to caramelize and burn. So don’t do this! 😉 If you don’t want to heat up your bark in the microwave you could heat it on your stove. Just follow the directs on your package and you’ll be good, but I still recommend not heating it all up at once. After it is done melting you are going to put your oreos in the bark. You want to make sure they are completely covered and when they are put them on a plate. (It helps to use a spoon to transport your oreos) When your oreo is on the plate you are going to get your marshmallows out and cut them in half. Then you are going to put the halves on the oreo to make the ears. Then you can get out the pastel M&Ms and make eyes and a nose. When doing these steps you need to do this quickly to make sure the bark doesn’t harden before the marshmallows and M&Ms are put on. You repeat this process until you make as many bunnies as you want.
For the chicks:
To make the chicks you do almost the exact same process above but you use yellow food coloring to color the almond bark. You dip the oreos and put them on a plate like the other recipe, but you don’t make ears. This time you make a beak. There are several ways you can make a beak (ex. orange air heads, jellybeans, etc) , but I used the marshmallows. I took the marshmallows and put a drop of yellow food coloring on them and rub it around. Since it is a small surface the yellow food coloring comes out as a bright orange color. After it was orange I cut the marshmallow in to beak shapes and put it on the oreos along with my M&Ms.
I highly recommend the treats because they were fun to make and very delicious. If you want to see the website I used to help me make these, I will put the link below. However, I did not do it the exact same way the website does. Anyways, thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy this diy!
Hello! Today I am back with a new diy project. Over the weekend I was on Pinterest and I found this really cool diy project. It is a headphone holder that you can clip on to your bag and it is really cute! It keeps your headphones from getting all tangled up in your bag and it can keep you from losing them. I use my headphones a lot so I found this diy very helpful. So if you want to learn how to make this, continue reading.
So for your supplies you are going to need:
- an Ice Breakers mint container
- a small clip (like one that is used for key chains)
- a key chain ring
- paper with a pattern you like
- glue (preferably Mod Podge)
- a drill
So first you want to get an Icebreakers mint container and put all the mints in a new container, or eat them all (either one works (: ) Next you want to take the stickers off of the container. The sticker on the top is pretty easy to get off, but the back is kind of tricky. I just kept pealing it off with my finger nails until I got it off. After I got it off, I used hot soap and water to get the leftover glue off the back. If you don’t want to do that, in the tutorial I used they got it off by using Goo Gone, which is a cleaner that helps clean off sticky materials.
After that you want to clean the container out to make sure there isn’t any powder from the mints in the container. Once it’s cleaned out you are going to want to take your drill and drill two holes into the side of your mint container. I recommend drilling them on the side over the area on the the mint container where it says “not to share”. You want to mark with a marker where your are going to drill to make sure your holes are equal. Before you drill, you need to pick a drill size depending on the thickness of your key chain ring. Once you have done this you can start drilling in your holes. When you drill in your holes you want to drill at an angle to make your key chain ring go into the holes. Once the holes are drilled, I recommend before putting the key chain ring in, you should put the clip on it first. It is way easier that way. After this is done you can put the key chain ring through the holes.
After the key chain is in you can finally start decorating! I got a piece of scrap booking paper and the bottom of a small cup and traced a circle to go on the mint container. After I traced it, I cut it in half because off the openings on the mint container. Then I glued it onto the mint container with some Mod Podge, but you could probably use super glue if you wanted. Then I let it dry and it was done! It’s really cute and I’m really happy with how it turned out!

Hello! I just finished another DIY Project to blog about this week. I went on Pinterest to find this DIY project. If you are not familiar with Pinterest, it is an app that allows you to look for ideas for diy projects, recipes, and more. It is very cool and I recommend it to anyone who likes DIY projects or cooking. On the app I searched “diy projects” and it showed me a page with tons of awesome projects. I scrolled down and saw a picture with a link to 23 other projects. When I clicked on it, it took me to a website called “Buzzfeed.com”. After looking at all the projects, I decided to do the dotted mug project. Here’s the link to the project if you would like to do it as well. ( http://www.designertrapped.com/2014/04/dotted-sharpie-mugs.html) I will still explain how I did it though.
So first, I bought a blank white mug and took off the sticker on the bottom. Then I washed the mug and made sure it was completely dry. After that, I made a letter out of paper ( I chose ‘B’ because of my first name). In the tutorial it tells you to use a stencil for the letter, but I wanted to really personalize mine so I made my own. After I was finished making my letter, I took some tape and put the pieces into little loops. Next, I put the tape on the back of the letter and stuck it on the mug. I made sure it was secure so nothing would get in the area under the letter. Next, I took some sharpies of my choice, ( I used blue, purple and green) and started making random dots around the letter. You want to make sure there is a balance of the colors and that you go all around the letter, even the edges. After you are done dotting, you can either leave it to dry or you can add more to you mug. For example I colored the rim of my cup blue and the handle green. Just have fun and personalize it however you want! After I was done coloring, I let the sharpie on my mug dry. When it was completely dry, I peeled the letter off. After the letter was peeled off, I put the mug in the oven on 350 degrees for 30 minutes. When I took it out I was very happy with the results! It was really cute and I was happy that I made it! If you are wondering what my mug looked like, below is a picture of a mug similar to mine. I got this picture from the website with the instructions. Anyways, I hope that you enjoyed this post and if you have any questions leave a comment below and I will answer them! Bye!
I chose DIY projects for my first genius hour. For those who do not know, DIY projects are do it yourself projects. Thus the name given for them is the acronym DIY.
I chose to do DIY projects because they seem like they are really fun to do and I like making new things. I also like how each project is unique. Another reason I chose to do DIY projects is because they can be anything! They can range from small crafts to big furniture pieces and home improvements. I got interested in doing DIYs because I saw people on YouTube and HGTV doing them. I also liked how I could do something new all the time and not get bored because each project would be different. I like how DIY projects are personalized and really show the creator’s personality in each project. Like when I watch HGTV, I see how different designers do different things and make their own cool pieces without spending a boat load of money. In fact, on most of the HGTV shows, the realtor/designer team convince the buyer to get a run down cheaper house. In the episodes it shows all the work going into this big renovation, but at the end, the houses are beautiful and unique. It truly show how you make something from nothing.
This week for my DIY project I started with a small craft. I made a snowman out of a shaped brick using various paints. I figured since my family was starting to put up Christmas decorations, that I could add a new one! Even though it was a very basic project, I had a lot of fun making it. To make the snowman, I had to paint the brick white and black and let it dry. After it was completely dry, I painted the snowman’s face and buttons. It looks very nice and I’m glad about how it turned out. I hope to do another project next week and when I have done so I will put up a another post. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this post
This is a picture of a snowman similar to the one I made.
