DIY Projects-2nd Project

Hello! I just finished another DIY Project to blog about this week. I went on Pinterest to find this DIY project. If you are not familiar with Pinterest, it is an app that allows you to look for ideas for diy projects, recipes, and more. It is very cool and I recommend it to anyone who likes DIY projects or cooking. On the app I searched “diy projects” and it showed me a page with tons of awesome projects. I scrolled down and saw a picture with a link to 23 other projects. When I clicked on it, it took me to a website called “”. After looking at all the projects, I decided to do the dotted mug project. Here’s the link to the project if you would like to do it as well. ( I will still explain how I did it though.

So first, I bought a blank white mug and took off the sticker on the bottom. Then I washed the mug and made sure it was completely dry. After that, I made a letter out of paper ( I chose ‘B’ because of my first name). In the tutorial it tells you to use a stencil for the letter, but I wanted to really personalize mine so I made my own. After I was finished making my letter, I took some tape and put the pieces into little loops. Next, I put the tape on the back of the letter and stuck it on the mug. I made sure it was secure so nothing would get in the area under the letter. Next, I took some sharpies of my choice, ( I used blue, purple and green) and started making random dots around the letter. You want to make sure there is a balance of the colors and that you go all around the letter, even the edges. After you are done dotting, you can either leave it to dry or you can add more to you mug. For example I colored the rim of my cup blue and the handle green. Just have fun and personalize it however you want! After I was done coloring, I let the sharpie on my mug dry. When it was completely dry, I peeled the letter off. After the letter was peeled off, I put the mug in the oven on 350 degrees for 30 minutes. When I took it out I was very happy with the results! It was really cute and I was happy that I made it! If you are wondering what my mug looked like, below is a picture of a mug similar to mine.  I got this picture from the website with the instructions. Anyways, I hope that you enjoyed this post and if you have any questions leave a comment below and I will answer them! Bye!

  1. Hi Braxten!
First of all, I really like the topic you have chosen for genius hour. I enjoy doing DIY projects myself, so I know how fun they are! I like how you use Pinterest to look at ideas, because that’s where I get most of my ideas from.
The mug with your first name initial is very cute, and is very useful for whenever. I made a similar thing to you, but on my mug I used an infinity sign, instead of a letter. So I can relate to you, how this project was fun!
One idea for you might be in the future blogs, you could post pictures step by step of your projects, so that readers can visually learn how to make the project also.
Overall, this blog was great and a great idea for anybody who loves coffee! I can’t wait to see what other DIY projects you’ll do!
